"Standout Students from the Class of 2017" - The Bulletin (Bend, Oregon)
When asked about standout senior students, Trinity Lutheran School Principal Hanne Krause’s response was quick: Noah Freeman, an 18-year-old born-and-raised Bend native.
“He’s involved in things at the high school level, but he also gives his time and talents to the younger kids,” Krause said.
Noah sings and plays the piano and organ. Carol Podwils, the school’s director of music, helped spark his passion for music at a young age. “Carol Podwils has been really influential. I’ve had her as a music teacher since kindergarten,” Noah said.
His piano playing began 10 years ago, and with an interest in music came an interest in being involved in the school’s church music scene. He has played the piano for pre-service music and postludes, he’s led the congregation in singing before services and he’s also been the church’s cantor for divine services. On Friday mornings, he and a group of friends have jam sessions and plan worship bands for chapel. “It’s been so fun to watch his talents develop over the years and to see the influence that his teachers have had on him and how he’s really just soaked all of that in,” Krause said.
This fall, Noah plans to attend Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, where he will study music with an emphasis on church music and music education. He also plans to be part of the school’s choir and play the organ and piano.
“I’m excited to start something new, go on an even farther music journey,” he said. “I’ve gotten so far here with the opportunities that I’ve been given and I’m excited to reach out even more to more communities and get involved with other great musicians out there.”
